Horizon Europe has three pillars to support activities which widen participation and strengthen the European Research Area across different sectors

  • Pillar 1: Excellent Science

  • Pillar 2: Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness

  • Pillar 3: Innovative Europe.

The Europeana Initiative participates in projects which enhance the digital transformation of the cultural sector and subsectors, aligning with the work of the common European data space for cultural heritage. In particular, the Europeana Initiative collaborates with consortia under Pillar 2: Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness, under Cluster 2: Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society.

Cluster 2 embodies a multifaceted mission to strengthen European democracy, foster citizens' active engagement, and safeguard cultural heritage, while simultaneously driving inclusive socio-economic progress. By leveraging the diverse expertise within European social sciences and humanities, this cluster explores the complex aspects of modern society, economics, politics and culture. Cluster 2 aims to offer policy recommendations that guide Europe’s green deal and digital transformation of the sector enhancing a more social, diverse and inclusive society.
