Europeana highlights - October-December 2020

Every quarter we bring you a round-up of what's been going on across the Europeana Initiative. Highlights from October to December 2020 include the Europeana 2020 conference, reports on the cultural heritage sector and COVID-19, a new exhibitions partnership with the European Parliament, GIF IT UP 2020 and webinars to join or watch again!

Europeana 2020

Held entirely online for the very first time, over 900 cultural heritage professionals from across the globe joined Europeana 2020: Crisis, Change and Culture - three days of talks, discussions and workshops with over 70 speakers and more than 50 sessions. The event also acts as the Annual General Meeting for the Europeana Network Association, and this year saw the launch of an election resulting in nine new councillors joining the Members Council.

COVID-19

We continued our work to support the cultural heritage sector in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis with the launch of two reports - one from our own sense-making workshops led by Michael Peter Edson and Jasper Visser, the other from Culture24.

Bringing digital culture to all

Celebrating the richness of our cultural heritage this season, we encouraged students to engage with Beethoven's life and work, we explored the outcomes of a fascinating Generic Services project focusing on documenting biodiversity and we embarked on an ambitious project with the European Parliament to curate 20 exhibitions in 24 languages.

Looking back

At the end of a year that none of us could have anticipated, we looked back at some of the remarkable and inspiring things the Europeana Initiative achieved.
