XRCulture aims to increase the availability of high-quality 3D and XR content in the data space through innovative technologies, catering to various use cases such as preservation, education, and tourism. It will leverage the latest AI tools for 3D model generation and improvement, such as NeRF and Gaussian Splatting.
The 3D models generated in this project will serve as foundation for developing XR applications to be implemented in different scenarios, including museum collections, heritage at risk and lost heritage. Through the concrete scenarios for reuse of 3D data in different domains, the project will support the uptake of 3D technologies by businesses, citizens, researchers and public administration.
In addition, the project will develop an open framework for 3D web visualisation and management of 3D models aimed at providing a user-friendly platform, ensuring accessible and manageable digitisation and storage solutions for cultural heritage institutions. XRculture will also promote best practices for the adoption of these technologies within the cultural heritage sector hereby accelerating the digital transformation of cultural heritage institutions by bolstering the sector's digital capacity.
The project is funded under Digital Europe Programme (DIGITAL) of the European Union.
