About the project

Eureka3D developed a knowledge, service and resource hub based on a smart technical infrastructure to act as a competence centre for 3D in the European data space for cultural heritage.

The EUreka3D data hub allows cultural heritage institutions to use storage and computing resources to manage their 3D assets, with an integrated 3D viewer and automated export functionality to Europeana. The Data Hub gives cultural heritage institutions an affordable and simple way to digitise, model, manage and enrich 3D records.

The project assessed the hub services in a use case pilot with four cultural institutions: Bibracte, Museo Della Carta di Pescia, CRDI, and CUT. Throughout the project more than 5,000 new 2D and 3D digital records have been ingested to Europeana.eu. Non-partner data providers were also interested in using the Data Hub to aggregate content, leading to more new digital objects ingested to Europeana than foreseen. The project also offered clear examples for using and reusing the content by target audiences.

Finally, EUreka3D built capacity by developing training material for 3D digitisation, data processing and publication on Europeana.eu as well as organised training activities to support cultural heritage institutions with the use of the virtual space.

The project was funded under the Digital Europe Programme (DIGITAL)of the European Union. A followup project has been funded under the same call, which will run from 01/01/2025 until the end of 2026, called EUreka3D-XR.
