Common European data space for cultural heritage - annual report 2024 - 2025

2024 - 2025 marks the third year of the deployment of the data space, and the achievements of the past 12 months help ensure that the data space remains a space for interoperability, innovation and inspiration. Its cutting-edge infrastructure, high-quality data offer, enriching capacity building resources and engaging digital services provide exciting opportunities for the contribution and reuse of digital cultural heritage data by Europe’s professionals, citizens and institutions.

Some of the accomplishments in this past year of work include:

  • development of a persistent and reliable unique identification system that enables interoperability with other data spaces and initiatives

  • growth of our API offer to boost reuse by new and existing audiences

  • increase of the amount of high quality, usable and accessible data in the data space to diversify our data offer

  • a better understanding gained of the dilemmas and opportunities presented by Artificial Intelligence (AI), ensuring that the data space stays at the forefront of the European and global AI debate

  • lively engagement with our colleagues from Member States to ensure their active and continued contribution

  • inspiring events and training programmes that support networking and capacity building for professionals across Europe

  • development of attractive activities for educators, researchers, creatives and tourists and last, but not least

  • inspiring audiences with our digital storytelling activities and participatory campaigns

Ultimately, we created many new opportunities for cultural heritage institutions and the sector to benefit from - and contribute to - the data space.
