The Europeana Education Community brings together individuals who believe in the importance of Europe’s digital cultural heritage in fostering the critical thinking skills essential for an open and democratic society. We build strong networks, support professional growth and cultivate a vibrant community focused on creative engagement with digital heritage in education. Through initiatives like creative challenges, workshops and open-access resources, we help educators and students develop key competencies, promote media literacy, and inspire innovative learning experiences that contribute to a sustainable and inclusive future.

What we’re looking for

To apply to join our Steering Group, you should:

  • Be a member of the Europeana Network Association. If you are not yet a member, don’t worry—you can join now for free!

  • Attend at least 80% of our meetings each year. We meet for one hour once a month during office hours (typically on the last Thursday of the month in the morning), with occasional ad-hoc meetings.

  • Take responsibility for a specific area or activity in our 2025 Work Plan and contribute to shaping the 2026 plan.

  • Act as a representative for Europeana and its Education Community. Be a liaison for your personal network and your professional field.

  • Have strong networking, communication, organisation, and planning skills.

Why join us

By joining the Steering Group, you will:

  • Gain visibility in a dynamic and growing community reaching over 10,000 people.

  • Exchange ideas and collaborate with like-minded professionals and innovators in the education and cultural heritage sectors.

  • Get insider access to Europeana’s educational plans, initiatives and key activities.

  • Receive travel coverage for an annual in-person meeting with Steering Group members to co-design the Work Plan.

We especially encourage applications from professionals in Primary and Secondary Education, teacher associations, young professionals, and youth associations, as these areas are currently underrepresented in our community.

Important notes

  • Please be aware that due to lack of capacity and to provide equal information to all, we will not be able to provide answers to individual inquiries about this call.

  • The selection committee (current Steering Group members) will review applications according to the requirements of this call and conduct an internal vote. Final decisions will not be discussed individually.

  • Please note that this position is based on voluntary commitment.

How to apply

If this sounds like the right opportunity for you, please send your CV and a motivation letter to education@europeana.eu by 30 April.
