Willemijn Elkhuizen
I am research fellow (and teacher) at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, Delft University of Technology. My research focuses around the use of digital technology to create meaningful and impactful cultural heritage experiences. My research takes the materials experience of cultural heritage artefacts as starting point to shape novel digitally mediated interactions, using technologies like 3D scanning, 3D printing, and Virtual/Mixed/Extended Reality. I teach the course 'prototyping with/for extended reality' where students create a VR cultural heritage experience.
MC candidate manifesto:
Research, education, creative industries
I would like to support efforts of Europeana to further enable the (re)use of (3D) digital/digitised cultural heritage collections, in experiences which move beyond the (2D) screen, and beyond 'search&discovery', towards tangible/embodied, multi-sensory and XR interactions.
I will aim to bridge disciplinary boundaries: between design/technology and humanities, between education/academia and cultural heritage institutions. I will contribute to the awareness of Europeana collections with creative/design professionals to create novel, creative applications.
