Fiona Mowat
I coordinate Europeana’s marketing intelligence activities relevant to Europeana’s professional audiences - overseeing surveys, market research, and analytics insights. My aim is to make data available via dashboards and reports in order to inform Europeana’s strategies, offer, and product and service developments - as well as to provide a general insight into trends emerging from the cultural sector.
Passionate about culture, data, and the arts, I was delighted to join Europeana in 2018 - moving from my native Scotland to the Netherlands. First working in data aggregation, then as a data analyst in Programme and Business Development, I joined Marketing Communications and Analytics in 2023.
Prior to Europeana, I worked across the cultural sector with physical and digital collections - including cataloguing and digitising rare books, museum objects, and archaeological finds. I hold a PhD in Classics from the University of Edinburgh which focuses on Roman funerary archaeology, art and epigraphy - intersecting with data analysis and digital humanities. I was also very fortunate to be part of an international team who excavated and documented the Dariali Fort in Georgia from 2013-2016.
A digital and cultural generalist, I am always happy to have a chat over a cup of tea with topics ranging from archaeological glass, funerary practices, the importance of 3D digitisation, metadata modelling and more!
