Euskariana is the digital portal providing access to Basque culture. It is a project promoted by the Department of Culture and Linguistic Policy of the Basque Government and is shared by all institutions, cultural facilities, and creative agents in the Basque Country. This unified platform aims to be the digital gateway that allows and facilitates internet searches for any content related to Basque Cultural Heritage. This heritage is understood as content created by Basque authors, published in the Basque Country, produced in Basque or translated into it, and/or produced anywhere in the world on Basque themes.
To achieve this goal, Euskariana aims to bring together the largest possible number of digital resources, systematising and homogenising the records, identifying their origin, and respecting the rights of their creators. Additionally, it seeks to provide a quality public service that satisfies both the general public and specialised researchers. In its procedures and protocols, Euskariana is based on the Europeana model. Therefore, the main digital repository of Basque culture is part of Europeana and serves as the primary point of connection with it.
In addition to data publication, Euskariana offers:
- Advice on the digitisation process following international standards,
- Guidance on best practices for data management,
- Assistance with data normalisation or implementation by Euskariana,
- Remodeling data to EDM,
- Data analysis and mapping,
- Adapting providers' descriptions to international standards,
- An OAI-PMH software in case providers do not have their own,
- Guidance on the use of rights statements and Creative Commons Licences,
- Data storage and preservation services,
- Dissemination of content, for example through social networks.
Technical conditions for working with Euskariana:
- Copyright status of the content has been evaluated and the rights statements promoted by Europeana are used.
