About Europeana

At Europeana, we work to empower the cultural heritage sector in its digital transformation. We bring together cultural heritage professionals from all over Europe. We provide the cultural heritage sector with a voice advocating for better digital practices. We work to share and promote cultural heritage so that it can be used and enjoyed by people all over the world. We provide opportunities for institutions and individuals in the cultural heritage sector to develop their digital skills and practice. We develop and maintain technical solutions for showcasing, sharing and using digital cultural heritage.

As we work toward our mission, we are increasingly publishing multilingually in the 24 official languages of the European Union. We publish editorial, such as blogs and exhibitions about cultural heritage topics, as well as professional resources for educators, researchers and cultural heritage professionals.

We are looking for interns to support us in this work, contributing to Europeana's multilingual editorial publishing. Interns will be working on translating texts for Europeana, including stories/articles, interface texts on the Europeana website and other texts. In turn, we offer Translation Studies students the experience of working on topics of relevance to the cultural heritage sector.

Key responsibilities

The persons conducting the internship will be working in Europeana Foundation's Audience Engagement Team.

  • Producing original translations of stories/articles on europeana.eu
  • Producing / proofreading translations of interface text on europeana.eu
  • Producing translations of other texts which contribute to Europeana's multilingual publishing strategy
  • Producing templates and guidelines for translation processes
  • Producing style guides for relevant languages

Based on the intern's profile, there may also be opportunities to contribute to other areas of the Europeana Foundation.

Knowledge and experience required

  • You are completing an advanced degree or specialisation in Translation Studies, translating from English into your first language
  • You are fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • You are IT-literate and a fast learner when it comes to picking up new software and new procedures
  • You have knowledge of the Google Workspace tools (or collaborative tools for remote working)
  • You have an interest in working in an international and dynamic environment

The Europeana Foundation offers

  • Between EUR 500 - 660 gross internship allowance per month (based on a full-time internship)
