What you were reading on Europeana Pro News in 2019

This year, we've posted 150 posts on Europeana Pro News. We've delved deep into a range of themes each month, including women in culture and technology, a school year with Europeana, digital storytelling, the GIFT project, Europe at Work, and Europeana today. 

Hottest topic - funding

This year, the hottest topic on Europeana Pro News was funding. Our post calling for applications for 20,000 euros of funding for STEM videos using cultural content was the most-read of the year. Our posts on the Research Event Grants call and the Digital Europe Programme consultation were also in our top ten.

Getting together in person

Another popular topic was the Europeana 2019: Connect Communities event, which was fantastic (and environmentally friendly!). 269 cultural heritage and technology professionals from 37 countries met in Lisbon, Portugal, to connect the Europeana Network Association communities. Those who couldn't get a ticket before they sold out (in record time!) were able to follow our livestreaming from the event and join in via Twitter using event hashtags.

Encouraging open access

Open access and copyright raise issues for the digital culture sector that are of great interest to you. Paul Keller's updates on the European Parliament's copyright directive changes were in our top ten for 2019. Look out for more work from the Europeana Copyright community next year - and keep an eye out for public domain month on Europeana Pro in January!

On the open theme, Douglas McCarthy's series on Museums in the Digital Age continued with a popular post about the importance of open access at the Cleveland Museum of Art. And our post on how the Europeana Publishing Framework has been updated with a metadata standard to encourage greater usability of cultural content was also a popular read.
