Why attend Europeana 2025?

The Europeana conference is a leading event in the world of digital cultural heritage and a flagship event of the common European data space for cultural heritage. This year’s conference, Europeana 2025 - Preserve, Protect, Reuse, will take place on 11 - 12 June 2025 under the patronage of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU. It is organised in collaboration and partnership with the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the National Institute of Cultural Heritage and the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw, who will host the conference. Europeana 2025 will explore critical questions facing the digital heritage sector and society at large, and how the data space for cultural heritage can contribute to addressing them.

How can I attend through a bursary?

Ticket sales are now open, and with a hybrid conference format, you can choose to register to attend online for free or buy a ticket to attend onsite in Warsaw.

There are a variety of pricing options available, but Europeana, working with ESACH, is also delighted to be able to offer five bursaries to support students and new professionals to attend the conference onsite, to enable those who would not otherwise be able to attend to join us in Warsaw.

What does the bursary cover?

Anyone who is a current ESACH member is welcome to apply for the bursary, which offers a free ticket to attend Europeana 2025 onsite in Warsaw and pre-paid accommodation for two nights of the conference.

The bursary also offers reimbursement for travel expenses up to a total of 300 euros. To receive this reimbursement, recipients will have to sign in on both days of the conference and submit a claim form with evidence of their travel (including receipts and tickets).

We may also ask recipients to take part in a short focus group after the conference to hear about their experiences and explore what else Europeana could do to support new professionals at their conferences; we will also ask you to contribute to a piece of editorial after the conference about your experience.

How do you apply?

To apply for the bursary, please send an email to events@europeana.eu and president.esach@gmail.com with answers to the following questions:

  • Where are you based and what is your background (BA student, MA student, PhD student, working professional)?

  • Have you already attended a Europeana conference? Were you previously awarded a bursary?

  • Please let us know why you would like to attend Europeana 2025 and what you would like to get out of it.

  • What is the thing that you are most looking forward to and why?

  • Fast forward five years - what do you want your lasting memory of attending Europeana 2025 to be?

  • Why are you interested in digital cultural heritage?

Your answers will be assessed by staff from the Europeana Foundation and volunteers from ESACH. We will award bursaries based on the motivations expressed and also aim to select applicants from a range of student/professional backgrounds and locations.

As long as you are an ESACH member, you are welcome to apply from anywhere in the world! If you are an ESACH member who has already purchased a ticket to join in Warsaw, you may still apply for the bursary and be reimbursed.

The deadline for applications is 31 March 2025. You will hear if you have been successful by the close of 4 April 2025.
