About the tool

A Community of Practice (CoP) brings together individuals who share a passion for a specific domain, fostering regular interaction to exchange knowledge and improve practices. In the digital realm, it evolves into a hub of digitally accessible resources—a space where peers connect, share news, and collaborate.

The 5Dculture CoP is designed specifically for professionals working with 3D digital cultural heritage. It serves as a central hub offering:

  • Technology components and tools developed by 5Dculture partners

  • Community updates and relevant news

  • Links to training resources for professional growth

  • Best practices for reusing 3D cultural heritage content

Each post from the CoP has a title and a short description, an indication about the type (such as resource, news) as well as an image and information about who created it and when. A user can click on a post to see its details, which can contain an arbitrary long mix of text, links, images, videos or even pdfs or presentations.

The tool was developed by the 5Dculture project which aimed to enrich the offer of European 3D digital cultural heritage assets in the data space and foster their reuse in important domains such as education, tourism and the wider cultural and creative sectors towards socially and economically sustainable outcomes.

The content published on the CoP is carefully curated by the 5Dculture team and while as of December 2024, only members of the consortium can create accounts and post to the community, in the near future the CoP will become open to external collaborators as well.

Benefits of the tool

By exploring the CoP you can easily find tools, best practices, examples and lots more to enable cultural heritage professionals to store and share 3D objects, and for cultural heritage reusers to make the most of this content.

The 5Dculture CoP is a valuable resource for cultural heritage professionals and reusers of 3D content. The platform is:

  • A one-stop-shop for relevant rich resources for professionals working with 3D

  • Offers inspiration and learning around what other professionals in the field are doing with 3D

  • Is easy to use for those less familiar with tech

  • Is easy to search for information thanks to a powerful search and tags

  • Is curated by 3D heritage community experts for the community

Technical information

The CoP has been implemented as a mobile-friendly web-application using standard open web technologies (e.g. HTML5) and frameworks (Tailwind CSS). It employs responsive design principles to ensure accessibility across devices.
