The Fifties in Europe Kaleidoscope is a Europeana Generic Service Project funded under CEF Telecom Programme. Starting in September 2018, the project aimed to leverage photographic content in Europeana on the topic of the 1950s in Europe and developed experimental approaches to digital photographic heritage to support engagement. In this post we explore some of the activities the project has delivered.
While cultural tourism has been badly affected by the COVID-19 crisis, cultural heritage continues to act as inspiration for individuals across Europe to explore the continent’s history, sites and art. In this post, we introduce Europeana’s ‘Discovering Europe’ season, which will highlight Europe’s rich natural beauty and cultural heritage to inspire travel to local and alternative destinations.
In the recently finalised Europeana Media project, co-funded under European Commission’s CEF Generic Services scheme, partners Istituto LUCE, Sound and Vision, the Europeana Foundation, TIB, Noterik and ATiT worked together to provide a novel, open source universal audiovisual player on Europeana.
A new strategy for the Europeana Initiative covering the next five years imagines a cultural heritage sector powered by digital and empowered to make that digital change by Europeana. In this series, we look at the strategy and talk to some of the people who will drive it. Today, we look at the first priority of the strategy - strengthening the infrastructure.
