Cultural heritage as a catalyst for urban resilience: diversity, inclusive memory, and sustainable futures

The peer-learning visit, organised by the European Heritage Hub, will gather experts to discuss how adversity can activate urban development through concrete examples in Sarajevo.

As part of the European Heritage Hub’s objective to enhance the role of cultural heritage for peace building, reconciliation, intercultural and interreligious dialogue as well as for the promotion of key European values, the city of Sarajevo will host the Hub’s third peer-learning visit for representatives of local and regional authorities as well as other heritage stakeholders.

City representatives and heritage professionals are invited to apply for the upcoming peer-learning visit in Sarajevo, taking place on 21-23 May 2025. Organised in partnership with the City of Sarajevo, this programme offers a unique opportunity to share good practices and acquire skills for addressing environmental, digital, and social challenges related to cultural heritage in local contexts.

City development and urban planning in Sarajevo have been based on resilience through culture and an urban fabric rooted in diversities.

The peer-learning visit will gather experts from the city’s heritage and planning administration, museums, heritage stakeholders, civil society and academia to discuss how adversity can activate urban development through concrete examples in the city.

It will delve into topics such as memory and diversity, sustainable urban development and cultural landscapes, future of cultural heritage, community engagement, innovation.

It will notably include site visits to Sarajevo city hall, the Ars Aevi museum, the Olympic Games museum, the War Childhood Museum, History Museum and Sarajevo Museum.
