Public domain support materials can be easily made available. But how can we identify works where the term of protection has expired? Navigating complex legal frameworks and varied national laws can make this a challenging task.

This office hour explores two key resources for cultural heritage professionals. We will discuss Europeana's Public Domain Charter and why its principles are fundamental to ensuring a rich, accessible cultural commons for everyone. We will then introduce the GLAM-E Lab Copyright Clearance for Public Domain Dedication Handbook, breaking down what it is and how it can be used as a practical tool to clear collections for public domain dedication.

Copyright office hours are informal online sessions that seek to bring cultural heritage professionals together in discussing and addressing common challenges.

To the extent possible, we encourage participants to share thoughts, examples and questions in advance through the registration form.
