In an age of digital transformation, how can cultural heritage institutions promote digital citizenship and strengthen democratic values? As online spaces become increasingly filled with misinformation and biased narratives, media literacy is more essential than ever. By providing access to authentic historical sources and fostering critical engagement with social and historical narratives, cultural heritage in its digital form offers valuable opportunities for analyzing both past and present media.
This webinar will examine the connection between cultural heritage and digital citizenship education, exploring how archives, museum collections, and libraries can equip citizens, particularly young people, with the skills to navigate the digital world critically, safely, and responsibly. The discussion will address the role of the GLAM sector in helping audiences analyze primary sources, question narratives, and build resilience against misinformation.
The session will feature a discussion led by Marco Streefkerk from the Anne Frank House and Raul Gomez from the Complutense University of Madrid, along with presentations from Noelle Beerepoot from the Anne Frank House, Sandra Rientjes from Wikimedia Nederland, Koos Sikkema from Bronnen in de Klas, and Christine Hveding from Europeana. Together, they will explore how archives, museums, and educational initiatives can strengthen media literacy, critical thinking, and democratic participation across Europe.
