Marco de Niet is the director of the Digital Heritage Netherlands Foundation (DEN), the Dutch knowledge centre for digital heritage. DEN is a government funded organisation to promote standardisation in digital heritage and to support the emergence of the Dutch national digital infrastructure, including cross-domain facilities and services. Marco is a board member of the Dutch Museum Registry and a member of the Dutch-Flemish Advisory Council for Language and Literature. He is actively involved in various international projects, including ENUMERATE, meSch and Unesco's PERSIST. Marco studied Dutch language and literature and History of the book at Leiden University. Before DEN, he worked at the R&D department of the National Library of the Netherlands. His main interests are the public aspects of the information society, digital preservation, business model innovation and accountability and statistics. He was elected on the Europeana Members Council in 2015.
